SALARY: Dependant on experience

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Inspect, test, maintain, repair and install electrical equipment and power on Purgatory Resort property. Including chairlifts, on-mountain snowmaking equipment and water well systems, to ensure safe and efficient electrical systems operation at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain all mountain electrical systems, including all *snowmaking systems and 9 chairlifts and 1 Magic Carpet. This includes but is not limited to: all chairlifts 480vac motor drive systems and 240v/120v distribution centers, 480v transformers, 480v motor room heaters, lift shack power, lighting and heaters. Lift systems 12VDC, 24VDC, 120VAC and 480VAC control systems and power, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all electrical equipment at all times. Must be able to read electrical schematics and understand symbols and many different Mfg. schematic layouts. Must maintain Colorado State Tramway Board specifications and OSHA requirements, as well as the National Electrical Codes.

*Snowmaking system includes several (12) 480VAC 3 phase pump motors (250 HP) and air compressors and their control systems. Including PLC control and several variable frequency drives for speed control of pumps. Also, 1 booster station on mountain with 2 more 3 phase 480VAC 250 HP motors and VFD control.

Must be able to use multi-meter to troubleshoot all types of electrical systems. Frequent testing on energized 480 VAC, 240VAC, 120VAC and 24VDC circuits is required.
Must be able to climb chairlift towers wearing a safety harness, while carrying tools, to work on tower derail switches and cable proximity sensors at heights up to 45 feet while chairlift is running.

Must have working knowledge of current electrical and electronic control/sensor devices and their function, testing and installation.

Must be able to ride a snowmobile, with public on mountain, safely and respond to lift down situations quickly and efficiently in all types of snow conditions including deep powder.

Execute scheduled annual, monthly, weekly and daily maintenance on chairlift electrical equipment.

Respond to and determine cause of operating lift electrical problems with public on board and implement solution by repair or correct Lift Operator error, explaining problem and solution to operator. Response and correction to be completed as quickly and safely as possible with the public’s safety, and your own safety being the highest priority.

Implement and ensure compliance with all Company and State safety policies and procedures.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operate with little or no daily supervision. Must be able to take charge and make quick, safe and correct decisions to bring equipment back to working order.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Expert working knowledge of all types of electrical equipment including AC motors and motor control, including AC variable speed drives. DC motors, including DC variable speed drives, battery powered low voltage 24VDC controls. Must be familiar with PLC controls interfacing low and high voltage systems to operate ski lifts and snowmaking systems. Expert troubleshooting skills using a multi-meter and Oscilloscope to diagnose problems. Expert knowledge of ski lift electrical operation and controls. Familiar with National Electrical Code and Colorado State Tramway Board Statutes.
Must be familiar with AC generators, AC motors, DC motors, 3 phase 480 volt power, installing new 480/240/120 circuits, 24 volt battery systems and battery maintenance.
Strong oral and written communication skills a must. Some computer skills required in order to communicate/email and track inventory parts. Also, parts research and on-line purchases.
Education or Formal Training: Minimum two year electrical certification from technical college or comparable training required. Snowmobile operation certification. Valid Colorado Driver’s License.

Experience: Minimum 4 years of electrical experience required. Experience in ski industry is preferred.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

Electrical multi-meter and electricians hand tools, socket sets, wrenches, etc. required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

50% of the work day is spent indoors: 50% of the work day is spent outdoors in constantly changing weather conditions, including snow, extreme cold and wet in winter and heat, thunder and lightening storms in summer.
Frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently using and monitoring controls that operate electrical systems. Frequently climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching. Noise levels reach 115 decibels while doing lift terminal inspections during the day. Frequent exposure to electrical hazards and frequent exposure to mechanical hazards, frequent exposure to cold weather, snow and icy conditions.
Must be able to climb lift towers wearing winter gear and safety harness up to 45 feet high with lift running.
